I had been using the strips provided by my local pharmacy, as my insurance gave a good price. But recently I have been fine tuning my diet, testing reactions to different foods, so now I have outpaced the rate of test strip usage that the insurance company tolerates.
So I came to Amazon because I saw a good price here compared to the non-insurance price at the pharmacy.
Two thing though
1) theses strips are much older than the ones I bought local. These expire in about a year, the locally bought ones in about two years. So its as if the ones purchased though Amazon have probably been sitting around in a stockroom for a year
2) these are touchy. It is easy to insert a strip., activating the meter, but have it lose electrical connect with the test strip. As if the meter was not connected to the strips electrodes. If you get blood into it when its like that, you have wasted the strip.
So I have been more careful of checking the screen for the ready blood drop symbol before getting blood into the strip. Some times I need to press fairly hard to get the strip to stay registers, or wiggle it around. It makes me a bit paranoid about trusting the readings I have been getting. Which is too bad, as the numbers I am getting look like they are moving in the right direction. They read ok with control solution though. So I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Strips from two different tubes act read in the same range. When I can get one on my prescription, I will do a comparison with what I expect will be a newer batch of strips. Hopefully age isn’t a factor, even though the Amazon purchase still has a year to expiration.
Follow up: { just opened my last tube. Only the first one I opened had issues with connectivity being inserted into the meter. Ibasically about 1 in 5 was wasted. But Agramatrix had excellent customer support. I called to ask if the high failure rate was common, and they said no. And offered to send me a new vial. They also included a fresh bottle of test solution, as they indicated both strips and test solution are not supposed to be used more than 30 days after opening
Customer support will also send you a cable to connect your meter to a PC for free. It is not a standard USB cable, although the meter end might lead you to think it was. And the software is a free download.

After reading a doctor’s review of another meter and strips that are way overpriced, I decided to try this meter and strips for the cost effectiveness and accuracy. I just received it and am pleased with it. The compact size, backlight setting, multiple alarm options, and even highly rated app make this one of the best meter systems I’ve used, and you can’t beat the price! I definitely recommend it!
