I don’t love the taste of these, but like this alternative from the traditional lozenge candies. They’re like a gummy texture, but not one that you bite into and it’ll bite off. It’s more like a chew that you suck on. But I like to pair this with the dissolvable pill and helps to soothe the throat. The amount of times I’ve recommended and have gifted it to friends who now carry it in their cupboard is insurmountable.

I appreciate this pastille because, compared with other brands, it does what I need it to do inexpensively. I’m shocked at the number of bad reviews due to ineffectiveness, bad taste or expiration date. First, pastilles like this work primarily to coat the mouth and throat with a smooth, thick substance to ease a sore/scratchy throat. They’re not medicine. If you expect anything more than the above, buy medicine. Secondly, because they are not candy, they don’t taste or feel like candy. I buy these precisely because I have dry mouth and throat and they work great at stimulating saliva and coating my dry mouth and throat with something soothing that’s not gum, sugar or irritating sweeteners. They aren’t super sweet (tend to be slightly tart actually) and they aren’t soft like gummy bears but also not hard and crunchy. They are meant to suck on and relatively quickly dissolve. Finally, if you buy these and they are bad tasting to you or don’t “work” for you or the expiration date is within 6 months or WHATEVER REASON, they have a 45 day money back guarantee. Contact THE SELLER. Not Amazon. The seller’s info is on the product package and they will explain their terms and tell you how to get your money back. Also, how do so many people not understand that although Amazon will not let you return anything edible, they will refund your money if what you purchase is meant to be edible but not edible. If it’s not acceptable for you to consume because no human would be able to consume it, contact Amazon and they will refund your purchase. They don’t want your nasty garbage back so toss it, get a credit, and try another pastille. They vary widely in flavor but most are otherwise close to what you get here. Also, don’t buy the one that claims to ease anxiety with magic..ahem homeopathy. That is an expensive con.

Okay,….so,….with this whole pandemic thing going on,…..I have stocked up on these. At first sight of a dry cough or dry throat I take one. They are semi soft like a thick gummy bear. I suck on them and they immediately stop a dry cough or dry throat. It seems like they also will drain any stuffiness. They are not menthol or minty, but instead have a very light berry flavor. I have read a lot of good things about elderberry for boosting the immune system and zinc for combating viruses, so thats why I was drawn to these. I can literally feel them working. I maybe take one a week or every two weeks, at the first sign of any irritation. One seems to do the job for me.

I’ve been using Luden’s and Throat Coat for the past year to try to relieve the swelling and irritation in my throat following surgery on my throat in August 2023.

***UPDATE: I just received my second order of these. I am not pleased at all with the packaging of my items. I ordered four of these 2-packs of Sambucol Black Elderberry Throat Lozenges. First of all, they were shipped with a box of Arm & Hammer Cat Litter Deodorizer. Although there was some plastic wrapped around it, it was not sealed in any way. Therefore, everything in the box smelled like cat litter deodorizer. Each of the 2-packs of elderberry lozenges was in plastic that had a sticky end to it. but it didn’t provide any complete sealant of the product within. This is a food item that is non-returnable. Am I supposed to feel safe using these lozenges????????***
I was convinced I was starting to get sick back in August of this year. I was feeling like I did last August when I was sick for over a month. My good friend told me to start taking elderberry, i.e., lozenges, capsules, syrup, etc. I first bought a jar of gummies at the drugstore as that was the only thing with real elderberry they had. I absolutely hate gummies!! And they were pretty tart but since I paid about $15 for them, I will finish them off. I ordered some more elderberry items off Amazon. These Sambucol lozenges are the best. I was disappointed at first because I found they weren’t hard drops, but similar to a gummy. But even though they’re soft, you don’t chew them up. You suck on them. They taste wonderful, and once they get really thin, I poke holes in it with my tooth and chew the remainder up.
So going back to my worry of getting sick starting in August, I have seemed to resist whatever illness had tried to befall me. I think I’m definitely a believer. I happen to really like the taste of elderberry. But just like with anything else edible, they’re going to be made different ways, and some may not taste so great. I am fixing to purchase some more of these.
