Where I live there is no place to take medical sharps and in fact you can put them in a used bleach bottle or used soda bottle. While my city may consider these items thick enough and sufficient for sharps disposal I personally prefer a purpose built sharps container and its thicker plastic sides and locking top that you have to be really dedicated in order to pry off. I will say the body of these containers is a thinner plastic than others, but still better than a bleach bottle.
Be aware that these are really intended for a medical facility or restroom at a place with a large people capacity like a mall or casino. These typically go inside specially designed wall containers and are locked inside of it. That outside container is where the safety features like restrictive access size come into play. At home you don’t (I mean, maybe you do?) have the wall box so you only want to use this where you are comfortable that anyone that may come in contact with this is an adult that can understand not to stick their hand inside. All that said, I’ve used this style and size many times as I live alone and am not concerned about anyone besides myself handling these containers.
These arrived with one lid half attached to the base, and as mentioned before it’s very difficult to get off especially without breaking it. These should really ship with both lids inside the top container for space efficient storage. The product listing also shows multiple sizes in pictures, yet this is not the type of listing where you select size options so the pictures should really be only specific to the size in question — as another review noted the listing advertising a needle port which is on a smaller version, not these XL containers.

For the price of these sharps disposal containers, I was hoping for a bit higher quality in this product. It does come with two large gallon sized sharps disposal containers, however, there are a couple of usage issues that have lead me to this somewhat negative review. First, they feel pretty cheaply made. The plastic is a lot thinner than most other sharps containers I have used in the past. They are also difficult to figure out how to use right away. The opening and point of entry for disposal of used syringes is a pretty wide open hole in the top that you just drop them into. There is no type of protection to keep a small child’s hand from reaching in, or from used sharps falling out if the container gets knocked over. When it is full there is a slide top that goes over the opening and secures closed by pushing plastic stoppers through a smaller opening at the edge. I just cannot recommend these sharps disposal containers in good conscience, based on the security and quality flaws mentioned above.

These are large and sturdy. They’re perfectly sized for auto injector pens. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that there’s no way of securely closing it without locking it for disposal – it uses a sliding door mechanism which locks when you slide it fully closed.

This large containers designed to keep the sharp needles safely stored inside the plastic bin. The package came with two large red containers and two white covers. The product is all made of plastic. The large opening is easy to dispose the syringe needles, but it does not do anything to prevent the items inside from falling out of the large opening. There are two plastic tabs on the lid when it is closed and locked, you can’t open it from the outside. I can use the same and cheaper plastic bins to do the same thing as these containers. It does not add much protection other than the warning labels.

I mean it’s a sharps container which is great to have around if you need it. These are very large 2 gallon containers which are perfect but know they are large. Reasonably priced for a 2 pack. I wish it came with a little bit of instruction. I have had shots of some sort for years so I know that they are meant to lock, but with the sliding top I would like to figure I can keep it closed when not needed. But it appears that if I close the top lid fully that’s it, locked and sealed. I’m in a city that allows you to put sharps in the garbage so these are marked but maybe an additional sticker for later. Overall they’re sharps containers and way more reasonably priced than others at the drugstore.

Both “tops” arrived in their closed position. One top was already attached to a bucket, and one wasn’t. With the one that wasn’t, I was able to access the bottom of the lid and I determined the locking method and “unlocked” it for use. But with the other lid already attached to the bucket, I can’t access the lid’s underside to unlock it. And it seems that the only way to pry said lid off is to break it off, rendering the container useless because the lid will never attach well again.
Further, the photos show a “needle port” that is touted for convenience and safety, but no such feature is on the 2 gallon model provided.
A shame, because the buckets are pretty heavy duty. If these were purchased, I would have returned them. Not recommended.
