Update: I started using a sock filled with rice warmed 30 secs in the microwave as a hot compress to stimulate blood flow and that has helped alot with getting my blood draws. However the next issue is, this only comes with 25 glucose strips and you cannot buy replacements ANYWHERE. I have searched Amazon, Ebay, Walmart, Google, anf the manufacturers website. Refill glucose strips for this device cannot be found ANYWHERE, they do not sell them separately. The 25 glucose strips you get with the device is all you get FOREVER despite the fact that the ketone strips are readily available and replaceable on Amazon in the sellers store. They only sell replacement ketone strips, not replacement glucose strips which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Diabetes is often lifelong so why would you sell a product that can only be used for about 2-3wks and then becomes completely unusable because you can’t get replacement glucose strips? So I will be returning this product as I’m down to about 7 strips left and those will be gone in about a 4dys and I just bought this about 10dys ago. A glucose monitor that is only usable for about 2wks is completely worthless.
So far I’m having the WORST time getting any blood. I’ve got it set on the highest meter for the lancet but I still have to pick him between 7-10 times because it just does not draw enough blood at all. I’ll keep trying for now but I might be returning this. I refuse to have to prick him a dozen times everytime I need to test his glucose

This animal glucometer kit is a great value for the price. it has everything you need to get started and it simple to use. The glucose readings are accurate. I tested my dog prior to a CMP, and the reading was within 5% of the serum glucose, which is considered very accurate.

My cat has a glucose monitor since he caught diabetes a year ago but that one is for humans. Now he has a cat one that is calibrated different for animals than people and this one seems to work better plus it can measure ketones as well. At least the test strips work better at capillary action to suck the blood way better than his human one. Sometimes I would have to do it several times to get a reading with his old device and then he would get mad at me and have a little grudge for a while so I didn’t like doing it to him and did it less than I should. Even the ear poker in this kit seems to work much better than his old ones although the better capillary sucking into the strip may be the reason. It does do a consistent tiny poke of his ear which is an improvement. No big drop one time then no drop the next time issue. The unit took a bit of time to set up but the instructions were helpful and large enough print to actually be able to read it. Since it can measure ketone and glucose it requires a chip from the bottle of strips to be inserted first before the matching code strip can work. Unfortunately this only comes with 25 glucose test strips which can go fast if you do day test curves once a week. I was not able to find replacement glucose strips for it on amazon or in the help nor on the AlievePet’s store page which is a problem. The instructions also ask you to calibrate the machine using the specific test solution which was not included and is also not listed on their store page. I hope it’s accurate. It seems like it is but that’s such a subjective and unscientific opinion I can’t be sure. I’m taking off a star because I can’t calibrate the device nor will I be able to order replacement glucose strips once they run out next week. I wish I could find them because I prefer to use this one and not have to go back to his human device. I haven’t tried the ketone test strips yet but I like that it can measure that as well.
*Update 2/3/2025 – Still can not track down where to obtain additional glucose test strips. Only ketone ones. This glucose monitor is now useless. Additionally the memory recall for individual readings does not display the date and time of those readings. What was the point of having to go through setting up the device and entering date and time with only two buttons if it’s not even going to provide it back to the user. I didn’t write them down thinking I could create the log for my cat’s various readings plus his glucose curve but now this data is almost useless. Very poor execution and attention to detail in this device. Doesn’t make me feel super confident about the accuracy now. Too bad, this device had promise. Had to take off another 2 stars for what has become basically a disposable 2 or 3 week test kit that can’t provide historical data.
TECHnical –
I got this meter to test blood sugar and ketones, to track health. It works decently like other blood glucose meters I’ve tried. Glucose read close to what a human meter gave. They didn’t require a very big drop, though the ketones seemed to require a little more. Meter remembers recent readings and can step through them, along with date and time, useful in case you forget to log one. Log book is useful to bring to the vet so they can spot any patterns. Lancet tool is fairly quiet and can be adjusted to a shallow depth for minimal pain. I was able to draw a big enough drop on the lightest setting. Refill test strips are reasonably priced. Carry case is nice though can’t hold both bottles of test strips.
Minor issues:
– I didn’t provide enough when testing and didn’t fill the strip, but the meter didn’t detect this and gave a very off reading (5.6 vs 1.0 actual), so you must be sure it goes all the way inside the strip.
– Uses code chips that must be inserted and that match the test strips, which can get a little annoying swapping them back and forth when you’re using both test types, being sure you have the correct one in, and not losing them.
– No included control solution.
– Instructions were a little unclear on what HCt does and whether it should be on or off.
– Boxes have tape seals on top but not on bottom.
