Okay, here’s the story. When I was in Vegas a couple of years ago, I did the CSI Experience in the back of the MGM. In the gift shop they had a lot of related items, one of which were CSI branded plastic pens that were filled with fluid and looked like syringes. I couldn’t resist and bought one each of the three colours.
Fast forward two years, and I’m working on a project that has some local EMTs. I thought it would be fun to get some of these pens to give them as a souvenir. So, I ordered a couple of dozen. I then went around and gave a couple to each of the team, but when I went to hand one to the team lead he hopped backwards like a rabbit to avoid what I was handing him. That’s where the concept of thrusting something that looks like a blood filled syringe to a medical person may not be your most sound decision on any given day. Once he knew what it was, all was good, and a joke shared by all.
As for the product itself, of the two dozen pens, two were broken upon delivery. They didn’t cost enough to warrant chasing a replacement. Over time, the fluid inside completely evaporates, which kind of loses some of the appeal factor. Its a basic ink refill inside a neat looking pen housing. Its inexpensive and kind of fun. Would I buy again… maybe if I had a good reason to do so; and they were really inexpensive compared to other suppliers I checked here on Amazon.

These pens were just ok. I was not very pleased with this item. They were very cheaply made and the ink did not last long. The item also appears bigger in the picture shown that it actually is. Amazon, however, was wonderful in shipping the item promptly, and there online customer service member I used was GREAT!

I liked these pens! They’re inexpensive, a great novelty/conversational item, and they write just fine for awhile. I got twelve, all worked fine. The plastic is cheap, but for the price and using here and there for notes, they’re great. Just the looks on friends’ faces was worth it to me! Gave them out as friend gifts. 🙂

The quality is poor. All 12 pens has the same defect. You can see a big fog spot in the clear plastic indicating that the plastic is either weak and/or cracked. I don’t expect that these will last very long and most likely will get broken in my bag when tossed in with other stuff. They are not sturdy enough to transport around, and are probably best when used sitting at your desk. The package indicated it was an Oriental Trading, Inc. product. So, my guess is these are “wholesale” because they didn’t pass quality inspection. Neat idea, but all 12 look equally messed up.

I like the look of the syringe pens, but I was very disappointed because out of the 12, only two would write. The others had full ink in them, but it was like the ink was really old and dried up because they wouldn’t write. I even tried to heat the ends, but the ink that did come out would look choppy. If you want to use these to actually write with…I would not recommend them.
