First, this works great and the temp gauge is really awesome. Keeps my meds cool for long time. Lid is nice to monitor the temperature and get max duration as you don’t have to keep opening it to check and make sure it’s still cold. Now the buyer beware part. They claim it’s TSA approved, but that’s a joke. There is no certification or approval process for these. Likely it’s just, hey some people have made it through TSA without issue.
So I have traveled through the airports with this as it was one of the main reasons I got it. I also put medical stickers on it so it would hint to its contents. So first trip outbound from a major US airport. TSA agent pulled it out of bag, but when I explained what it was. He had no issues. Actually he thought it was pretty cool and commented how he had never seen one before. (First clue that “TSA Approved” is a sham. If approved, he would likely have known it was not an issue.). He never opened it. Now, fast forward a week and I am on my return flight. Again from a major airport in the US. I have pre check, so I do go through the faster line. Bag goes through X-ray and machine stops. Tech is looking at screen and starts calling people over. I explain what it is, but they essentially ignore me. After the supervisor comes over, they make several calls on the radio. Again I try to explain what it is. Now meanwhile they have frozen the conveyor, will not even progress my bag out of the scanner. Line gets shut down and they mover everyone behind me to another scanner. Poor guy right behind me was stuck as his bag was in the scanner with mine and they would not move it. To not make this already long story longer, after about 30+ minutes two gentlemen in white shirts and kakis show up. Logo on their shirts, essentially the explosive experts. Again I explain to them what it is. They look at the X-ray finally move the bag through and take out the container. I tell them again what it was and they ask to open it. I give consent, they open it and confirm all is well. As I was talking with them I mentioned it was claimed to be TSA Approved and they laughed.(second indication) They confirmed there was no such thing. They then told me they would strongly advise against carrying through security. They said you will likely get stopped every time going through security. Told them I did not before and that’s when they showed me what it looked like on the X-ray. See you have a cylinder with a dense material in the middle (gel pack) then you have a lid with circuits and electronics and then, here is the kicker, look at the picture of the thermometer, it’s a wire dangling from the electronics into the middle of the container with a wider portion than the wire, it is a dead ringer for a detonator. I will admit when I saw the X-ray, I could not argue with them one bit. They asked if they could take several pictures of it to share within the TSA to bring awareness, to which I had no issue. (Third indication that TSA Approval is no such thing). End of the day, they let me fly with it so you will likely make it through, but if I was not really early for my flight I would have missed it. It took a good 40 minutes to clear security with it. As many have attested, you may make it with no issues, but I submit if the TSA agent is actually doing their job and alert, and even if they are familiar with the product, they should screen it because frankly on the X-ray it’s a dead ringer for an explosive device. To that point, a bad person could probably make a real one disguised as this. For that reason alone they should flag this for further inspection every time it comes through. I personally plan to keep it as it works great, but I will not travel on a plane with it anymore, trying to decide on just getting one with a simple lid (no temperature feature, ie looks like a detonator), or go for a different type.

I bought this for a pending trip needing to be TSA approved. I had no issues with TSA on said trip and it kept my meds cold for close to the 60 HRs as advertised.
