First impressions…this smart pillbox is smaller than half the size of the larger unit and it is not nearly as good quality. The larger version has five magnetic contacts to keep the door closed whereas this one uses only one and it’s on the hinge side, securing the door closed with a tiny bump that aligns with a notch in the door. For lock and security, the larger one is superior. Closing the the door on the larger smart pillbox feels like shutting the door on a brand new Mercedes-Benz or an Audi, but closing the door on this smaller smart pillbox feels like shutting the (all steel) door on an old Chevy Camaro – it takes slightly more effort, isn’t the best of current technology, but it’ll get the job done until it either stops working or breaks down completely. Just saying.
Both sizes have internal batteries to power alert features, which are helpful if you tend to be forgetful. Both sizes also have infrared sensors at the bottom of each divided space to display which spaces have medication/supplements to your connected Bluetooth device. Each unit utilizes a USB-C port on the rear for charging – the larger one has a dedicated cutout specifically for the USB-C port and this smaller variation utilizes an oversized hole that The larger size offers light, sound, and vibration alerts for scheduled dosing whereas the smaller one only offers light and sound alerts. The vibration alarm is especially helpful when you want to receive discrete alerts. Again, the larger size is superior.
With a square shaped pillbox all sides are equal length, so you’ll spend a little more time looking for the side the door opens from if you’re attempting to take a dose in the dark. It does help that there is a long notch along the seam to ensure you know where the door opens. With the larger version of this smart pillbox, there are obviously only two sides that you will try to open from, making it easier to feel for the long notch along the seam. HOWEVER, please be mindful that you risk dumping the entirety of its contents if you happen to open either size smart pillbox upside down, because there is no internal storage case.
Purchased this smaller variation shortly after receiving the manufacturer’s larger unit and I’m actually disappointed. The larger unit has eight divided spaces and this one only has four, but it’s actually smaller than HALF of the larger unit. The larger unit has five magnetic contacts throughout the edge of the door, securing its contents when closed; whereas this smaller unit has only one magnetic contact that is on the same side as the hinge and it’s not very strong. That being said, the larger one offers a better sense of closure and peace of mind that its contents will stay in place, and this little one relies on a tiny protrusion of plastic to “lock” the door. I have used my Memo Box, a smart pillbox by another manufacturer, daily for over eight years and it still closes consistently with its magnetic edge door cover.
