This does work well for soothing skin, but the texture of it is weird and honestly a bit off-putting for me. It feels waxy, almost like chapstick, yet also greasy. Kind of heavy on your skin. You can definitely feel it and that feeling doesn’t really go away. It doesn’t feel pleasant to use, so I find myself forcing the issue when what I really want to do is reach for something I like better. It works, but only if you actually use it, and I have to force myself to do that. I will not be getting this again.

This balm is excellent for anyone that struggles with excessively dry skin, including those with eczema. My skin gets rough and chapped in the wintertime, but my daughter’s eczema flairs during the summer months. Between the two of us, we have tried many different lotions, balms, creams, etc. to try to combat sore skin.
This balm comes in a plastic jar with a twist-off lid. The balm doesn’t have a scent and has a very short ingredient list. It’s made right here in the USA and doesn’t contain any chemicals that would increase dry skin discomfort. These are all super positive points when considering a product for excessively dry skin.
The balm is thick and does feel heavy where it’s applied. It melts into the skin but does leave behind a little bit of a greasy feeling. It’s very soothing and doesn’t cause any added irritation. Sometimes when I apply lotion or cream to my hands they sting at first. That’s not the case with this product.
I’m happy overall with the results we’re seeing from using this balm. My skin feels soothed from using it and I’m seeing a difference in the areas I’m applying it to. The price isn’t bad compared to other eczema-recommended products and I’m glad we gave it a try.

This cream has no scent at all. I am surprised the name says it is for the face. I would not like to apply this to my face unless at night when no one but ghosts will see me. The reason is that it is petroleum jelly and thus it looks greasy and feels greasy after being applied. Not desirable for a face going out in public. I deducted stars as the only thing that differentiates this product from other petroleum jelly products is the addition of oatmeal which is only 1%. It does work but there are less expensive alternatives.

I’ve been looking for something like Cerave but with CO1% and this seems to fit the ticket. It goes on easily, isn’t that greasy at all and my skin is dry to the touch in just a few minutes. It helps a ton with my winter eczema so far, and I’m hoping it lasts quite a while when wearing longer clothes that brush up against my skin (another source of irritation in the winter..). One caveat is the price – I can get two jars of Cerave lotion compared to this. However, this is a face specific cream which is generally a lot more expensive than body lotion, so my use-case may be a bit different as I am using it for my legs and arms.

Mostly, I like the use and quality of the CalmOn Barrier Balm. Comes in your standard plastic jar with a screw-on lid (3.4oz for $21 as of this review). The contents are a colorless, white slippery balm with excellent spreadability and no odor or added fragrances, but it will leave a slightly greasy residue. I like to use it on my dry hands (I wash my hands often, and it is wintertime). This gentle, non-irritating balm is great on dry, sensitive, compromised facial skin. My husband has terrible psoriasis-like dryness, and while he, too, isn’t a fan of the slightly greasy feel (not shiny looking), it does soothe the redness and flares.
Did not cause any breakouts, congestion, or additional flares.
Made in the USA. Ingredients are colloidal oatmeal (1%), petrolatum, dimethicone, microcrystalline wax, sunflower seed oil, and squalene.

Comes without an outer wrapping or top seal. There is no inside lid seal either. In my opinion any health product we put on our body should have a tamper seal somewhere, and any lotion or potion that might melt & run should have a barrier over it to prevent possibly leaking into a box. These are things addressed at the manufacturing or product level.
It is a solid creme, & I tried it on several places, over several days. Not sure it sped up healing but then neither did it cause things to get worse. Over time you might be able to try one eruption “with” & one eruption “without” and then by comparison figure if it helps in your case or not. I didn’t have enough test places to really compare.
If you have eruptions from persistent health or allergy issues, this type of product might be worth looking into because at least it does not contribute to the problem, from what I could determine anyway. And generally, I’m a good guinea pig as weird additives tend to show up on my skin.
The creme goes on easily..being thick you just need a dab.
It works in well & does not make a mark or eyesore of your problem area or eruption. List priced at $21 when I ordered ($6.176 an ounce), it isn’t inexpensive but if it were to be the magic bullet in your case, might be cost effective for you.
However, I think I’d look for a product that considers your safety that tamper seals their jar. And I think I’d look for a product that considers the arrival condition of your package and leak seals their jar to prevent spillage, all matters the manufacturer needs to address.
