Our Eclectic Life –
This set is largely similar to other glucose meters that I have looked at and owned. There were a couple of points that stood out to me and I’m listing them below. As with most meters, your real cost comes with the disposable supplies so make sure to price the lancets and strips before choosing your device. That’s what worries me most about this device, though. I am having trouble finding replacements with the same model number. This set is currently selling for $50 which I think is on the high end for a set that doesn’t include a case or even batteries.
Glucose Meter
– 2 AAA batteries not included
– There is no case included but many other meter sets come with a storage case for at least the basics.
– No coding required for strips. The coding is done automatically so you can’t mess up the coding.
– No standard solution given to test the meter with. When I have looked at other glucose meters, they tend to come with a solution of known concentration so you can see how far off the results are from what’s expected. Having used enough scientific instruments that I don’t trust uncalibrated ones, I would have preferred that this device came with a way to check results.
– It is quite lightweight and doesn’t feel as sturdy as my other glucose meter. I don’t know that it’s actually inferior, though, it just gives me that impression.
Lancing Device
– By twisting the white tip, you can choose between settings 1 – 5. You can’t set it between two numbers as it pops one way or the other when you try.
Test Strips
– Although the seller is CardioVantage, the included meter and strips are Bioland brand. The model number listed on the packaging is G-425–3S. I couldn’t find that exact model on Amazon to check out the replacements which concerns me. I’m not positive which ones I should buy when the included ones run out.

This is an inexpensive, no prescription required glucose meter. It works. But it isn’t accurate. This is vital, to be able to trust the numbers in a medical sense. So, for information only, this unit might be fair. But if you NEED to know, don’t risk this. It comes with an adjustable machine to prick your finger, which can be useful. It requires strips which aren’t regularly available at a decent price. But no case or bag, and no testing fluid to verify readings. I only want to check my numbers when I’m curious about if my physical sensations match the readings, but it’s so inaccurate that it can’t really help.

I check my blood sugar fairly consistently, and while I have a FreeStyle Precision Neo from my doctor, I wanted to try something else to see if I could save on test strips and lancets. So, this product just arrived, and I thought I’d compare the two, with the one from my doctor’s I know is accurate based on its readings and my regular A1C tests.
Before I get into that, the kit itself is pretty good. You get 100 lancets and test strips. The lancets are bit on the flimsy side in my opinion, and the test strips aren’t individually sealed, but come in a film canister like case. The glucose reader requires 2 AAA batteries, which are not included, and there is a lancet holding device, which took me a moment to figure out how to actually open. So for the price, the kit isn’t bad. So onto the test I did comparing my readers.
I used each of the respective lancets, and got to drawing blood and testing out each device with their own test strips in their own readers. The Bioland device (that’s what it says on the packaging for the test strips and the reader–the lancets are branded Hurhong) said my glucose was 268 mg/dL! That was a bit alarming, so I proceeded with my Precision Neo device and it told me my glucose was 122 mg/dL. That is such a huge discrepancy that I can’t recommend this device to anyone who needs to take their blood sugar regularly.

All the necessary components for monitoring blood sugar are included in this CardioVantage blood glucose monitor kit. But there are no batteries included. Once a prescription device, these days anyone may monitor their blood sugar levels to assist keep an eye on their health. This might last nearly three months, depending on how often you test, because there are 100 test strips and 100 lancets. If you test multiple times a day, it will be lower. The results are displayed to you in five seconds and offer an excellent means of tracking and monitoring.

Perhaps someone with some history of knowing how to use this would find it easy. Or perhaps someone with a degree in engineering could understand the directions. The directions are very precise, however, they are very long and detailed, and I’m not able to follow them. I had wanted to keep track of my blood sugar on my own. I’m not diabetic, but several people in my family are, so I wanted to be able to keep track of my own sugar levels. I was unable to figure out how to use this product on my own, and don’t have anyone local to show me. I do like that the kit came with everything that I might need to track it, if only I could figure it out.

This is a nice glucose monitor which comes with a supply to do 100 tests. If you have used these devices, this one would be similar to others and should be fairly easy to use. The quality of lancets are nice and they don’t hurt. I think at $40 it’s reasonably priced. I am giving it 4 stars because I do see the reading different from my more expensive monitor. Having said that, the readings are consistent and if you are monitoring change this should work well.
