I’m used to using a $7 pill cutter like the one seen in the photo. It works fine, but I feel like it’s a bit of a pain to have to jiggle the pill around so it gets accurately cut in half.
So this cutter, which costs 3 times as much, seemed great. Somebody has taken the trouble to create a pill cutter that is well built, and does a precise job of cutting your pills.
Well not so fast. If you look at the photo, you’ll see that the cutter blade must be pretty badly off center, resulting in pills being cut in 1/3 and 2/3 pieces. No way around it either, you can’t really adjust the way the thing is held or the position the blade comes down.
So for all that money, I get something that doesn’t work at all? No. Junk.

Super easy to use and it works well to cut average sized to big pills. I have really tiny pills for sleep and those don’t cut too easily, but in that case you might want to request smaller dosages instead of cutting the tiny pills

This pill cutter cuts pills without much effort. It feels sturdy. It can cut several pills all at once. I like that you can press the button on the side and it automatically lines up all of the pills, and holds them in place. Now for the bad, when the pill cutter is open, the blade extends slightly beyond the guard, so you could potentially cut yourself. Also, this pill cutter doesn’t cut my pills in half evenly. I have tried cutting different sizes of pills, but they all come out with one side larger than the other side.

Auto Centering Pill Cutter (Care2fit): This is a sturdy pill cutter that can cut multiple pills at the same time and (mostly) down the middle. My current pill cutter is cheaply made and getting dull (plus the pills tend to slide around right as I press down on the blade), so I was looking for a new one. This cutter is pretty fancy (and bulky) compared to what I’m used to, but it mostly works well. I often have to cut pills in very small sizes for my pets, and it’s hard to cut them evenly. I like that this device has little squeeze bars on the sides, which make it a lot easier to keep the pill(s) in place and get a more even cut as you bring down the blade; it’s also great that once the blade goes down, the pill pieces are contained and can’t go flying out, as they would if you just cut them with a knife on the counter. Not every attempt results in a clean, even cut, but it’s close enough for my needs (I still find it more precise to cut just one pill at a time). There is a convenient little case at the end to hold the cut pills. I found it difficult to slide open the cover at first but have gotten used to it (you have to push down and slide at the same time). In addition to splitting pills, I often have to crush them into powder to hide them. With other cutters, I have used a flat edge of the device to do the crushing but this one doesn’t really have a great spot for that (I have been flipping it over and using the back/top of the handle for this purpose). This is a little more expensive than other cutters but I have a feeling it will last a bit longer, so probably worth the investment.

This pill cutter has been working well for the pills I need to cut, which are Synthroid. Does it cut them perfectly? No. But is it better than any other pill cutter I’ve tried with those pills? YES
I have had very poor luck cutting those tiny pills in half, and this is doing it better than I was, and more than one pill at a time. That’s a win for me, honestly. It’s just not super possible to get a clean cut on such tiny pills!
I’ve been happy with this cutter, but I think it’ll work a lot better on larger pills. You should try and get them lined up with the blade if you can.

It’s always a pain when you have to split your pills. Definitely not my favorite. I don’t really have a favorite method for splitting them. Sometimes I just use a knife, and other times I use a pill splitter. I have two of them; one was expensive and is a huge pain, and the other one is simple to use and really cheaply made.
I ordered this one because it could do multiple pills at a time. This is great! And it holds your pills in place so that you actually cut the middle. I played around with it to see how the mechanism worked and managed to cut myself, so I can tell you the blade is for sure sharp. :/
I lined up four pills and it split them without any issue. Some of them did crumble a little, but that’s probably because I was too impatient to center the score lines of the pills.
At the end of the device, there’s a little door that you can open to store your pills as you’re cutting them. It can be a little hard to open at first, but once you’ve opened it a few times, it gets easy to open. Of course, like all pill splitters, medicine powder does get everywhere inside the device. It was a nice touch that they included a little brush to help clean up. It didn’t get everything, but a quick little blow of air got the pieces that were trapped inside the machine.
The pills I split were tiny, but you can use this splitter with pills up to about 3/4″ long (or wide).
