This is a review of the Cosette Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment for Face or Lips with Docosanol Cream, 10% – Treatment Cream for Cold Sore/Fever Blister – 0.07 oz Tube (6).
I received this product free of charge to share my product experiences with Amazon customers to help them make informed buying decisions. This is an honest review from a real person. I didn’t pay for the item, so I will only comment on the apparent quality and utility, not on the value. Prices fluctuate regularly and I always recommend shopping around and comparing what’s available to get your best deal on the date you decide to buy.
I believe 10% Docosanol is the best OTC stuff for fever blisters and cold sores, so I couldn’t pass up this 6 pack of Docosanol cream. It’s a .07 oz tube and you’re supposed to apply it 5 times a day. The pack I received will expire December 2025. Unfortunately that won’t be a problem around this house. If you only use a tube or two a year, you may want to take this into consideration.
5 stars.
I rate products according to the following scale:
1 Star: Do not buy. Very poor quality, functionality, or other issues.
2 Stars: Do not buy. Not as bad as a 1 Star, but it still has major downsides.
3 Stars: There are some issues as described in my review. Shop around before you buy
4 Stars: This item met my expectations and functions as intended.
5 Stars: I love this item. It exceeds my expectations for quality and function.

This generic docosanol 10% cream is an excellent budget-friendly alternative to Abreva, offering the same active ingredient at a much lower price. It works just as well for treating cold sores, as I have frequent, random outbreak.
Since my cold sores pop up at random times, I like to keep extra tubes on hand to avoid the hassle of searching for one when I need it. Having a few spares has saved me both time and money, as long as I check the expiration dates. If you’re looking for an affordable and reliable cold sore treatment, this is definitely worth having in your medicine cabinet!

I’m one of those that have suffered with “cold sores” and I’ve tried every medication that I could find. The “camphor” products, the balms, the Vaseline-like ones, the creams…only one worked, and it was a product named Abreva. It was sold in a teeny tiny microscopic tube for an astronomical price, but it worked. It’s active ingredient was Docosanol Cream, 10%.
This product has the exact same ingredient. Not one that is close. The exact same. Not one that smells like eucalyptus or mint. It just works, and this product that doesn’t bear the brand name works exactly the same as the brand name, at 50% less out of pocket expense.
For me, it was a no-brainer. If I’m going to use the product, experience the same beneficial effect, why not pay less?

Recently, my lips were irritated and painful, but applying this product helped soothe them quickly. With six in a pack, I can use them for a long time. I’ve heard that lip products shouldn’t be shared, so having a set of six is a really great idea!

My husband gets cold sores from time to time and it seems that we have to buy a new tube each time because he misplaces the tiny tubes when they aren’t actively being used. As a result, we had already switched from the name brand to just buying generic versions with the same main ingredient. This batch offers the best price per tube than I have ever seen before. The bad news is that it expires in 11 months from when I ordered it. My husband will probably only use (and lose) two tubes by the time it expires, which kind of negates the savings per tube. You’ll have to do your own math on whether this is a great deal for you.
However, as far as the product itself – it works well, and my husband is very pleased with it.

Anytime I’ve purchased Abreva, the name brand this docsanol cream uses as it’s ‘compare to’ on it’s label, the expiration is about 2 years out. I received 6 tubes of docosanol cream on Feb 10 of 2025, and all expire December 1 of 2025. It’s not a ‘best by’ date, meaning lowered efficacy, it’s an expiration date. Now you may be the type of person who buys a product like this, and it’s good for 2 years, it sits on your shelf for 2 and a half years, you need it, you still use it. That’s fine, YOU let it go that long. The point is, it was good for a long time when you purchased it. This seller is shipping product that is about to expire. If they placed the expiration date in the ad and you didn’t care or knew you could use it all in time, that’s great. Sending old meds is never a good idea.
Next, the last photo in the ad shows this item is in a pump. It is not, its the standard sealed tube that you use the lid to puncture. I was expecting the pump, I wanted the pump. I dislike the wrong photos being used in ads, and I dislike non disclosure of short expiration dates.
Fortunately, I do not currently have a cold sore to test this product, but based on the 2 points above, unfortunately, I can not recommend this product nor Cosette Pharmaceuticals.
